Tanja Burghuber – Focused on People, Confident with Numbers

From Accounting to Vocation – how our HR Manager Tanja Burghuber found her own unique path, why she prefers working with people over numbers today, and what advice she has for young people starting their careers.

From Numbers to a Passion for People

After graduating from the HAK business school in Steyr, Tanja moved to the big city – Vienna, to be precise – to study Human Resource Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. While studying, she worked part-time in accounting. It didn’t take long for her to realize: numbers were fine, but working with people was where her true strengths lay.

After completing her studies, she returned to her rural home region – drawn by the desire for a quieter life and to be closer to family. She spent several years working in HR at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz before joining weba around seven years ago.

What began as a role in payroll quickly evolved: just one year later, she had already taken over as Head of Human Resources – right in the middle of the pandemic, no less. A challenging time that she navigated with dedication and determination.

What Tanja is especially proud of: Taking on the HR leadership role – not just because of how quickly it happened, but because it taught her so much and allowed her to make a real impact during a very turbulent time.

Colorful Workdays Instead of Excel Monotony

A typical day? Not for Tanja – and she likes it that way! What she values most in her role at weba is the variety. From recruiting and international assignments to booking training courses – every day brings something new. She works with people, shapes processes, and is constantly on the move.

The difference compared to large corporations?
At weba, you're not confined to a narrow area of responsibility. You see the bigger picture, take ownership, and grow with your tasks – exactly what Tanja loves about her job.

Tanja’s Advice for Young Professionals

“Never give up. Keep going. There’s a solution for everything – even when things aren’t going well.”

Tanja knows: there are many ways to reach your goals – and today, more than ever, there are countless opportunities to change direction professionally. Whether it's completing your education later, pursuing further training, or switching careers – it’s never too late to try a new path.

What Tanja finds exciting about today’s working world

That it's constantly evolving. That there are so many options. That people can reinvent themselves again and again. This is exactly what makes the modern world of work so exciting for Tanja – and what drives her to support others on their journey.

Recruiting Insider: What Tanja Really Looks For
“Grades don’t tell the whole story,” says Tanja. What matters much more to her is whether applicants have gained practical experience – through an internship or a part-time job, for example.

Professional Inspiration: From Apprentice to CEO

One person who especially inspires Tanja is our CEO. Why? Because he started at weba as an apprentice and worked his way up over many years. His visionary thinking and ability to keep track of a wide range of topics truly impress her.

And Outside of Work? Nature, Hiking, Psychology

Tanja loves being in nature. She enjoys hiking in the mountains and finds peace in the calm surroundings of Steyr – and she’s happy to be back in the region where she grew up.

She’s also currently studying psychology part-time through a distance learning program. Not just for professional reasons, but because she’s always been deeply interested in people and how they think and feel.
